Microsoft launches a free version of Office with PC ads


Microsoft has launched an option to Use free office applications on your PC. The new alternative does not require a subscription to Microsoft 365 and allows you to download and install some applications of the office suite on your computer. The only difference is that these applications include advertisements and omit some functions of the payment version.

While Office is free on the web, to use applications on a computer it is necessary to have an active membership of Microsoft 365. Apparently that requirement has softened in recent days with a free subscription. Microsoft offers the three most popular apps of the office suite, although with limited operation and a side banner with advertising in the user interface.

After installing them, the user will visualize a screen on which the option to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint is free in exchange for ads. Microsoft will also ask if you want to visualize custom offers based on your activity within the app. This step is completely optional, so it is possible to avoid monitoring.
